Chapter Ten

Dreamriver licked her chest, as she lay in the warm sun. It had been several moons since she had been a warrior, and there were many new kits. Leaf-fall and Honeystripe had both had kits, and Rainblossom was heavily expecting. Dreamriver smiled as she watched Honeystripe's kits-Dawnkit, Rosekit, Sagekit and Ravenkit- play with Leaf-fall's kits-Featherkit, Lionkit, Sandkit and Redkit. They were so cute, and rainblossom just looked exhausted. The Green-leaf sun beat down upon the expecting queen's pelt, and she struggled to move to some shade. Dreamriver looked around, Eagleheart always seemed to be hanging out with Hollowcry, and Cloudriver never seemed to be around. Dreamriver looked down and sighed, her eyes filled with sorrow. Then she saw the young tom, Soaringheart pad up to her. She looked away.

"Are you okay Dreamriver?"

Dreamriver sighed, and nodded.

"Ya. I'm fine."

Then her thoughts flashed to Watercloud, who had been killed by a small group of rouges a half moon ago, and it had been horrible news. Dreamriver flashed a look at Soaringheart, to see his eyes looking at the ground, dejected. he stuttered as he turned away.

"O-o-okay..."

Dreamriver sighed, and let him walk away. She got up, and walked to the entrance of the camp, her paws numb. She walked blindly, not realizing where she was going, until she actually got there. She stopped. In front of her was the lake, and Dreamriver cringed back. She had used to love the lake... but now the lake seemed like a peril. She panted in the hot sun, though she knew the water would cool her off, she didn't go in. Then, she yowled in surprise as a tail touched her shoulder. She spun around, snarling to attack. She leaped onto the cat, digging her claws in slightly. She gasped as she saw the green eyes, behind the silver face. She loosened her grip, but didn't get off.

"Cl-cloudriver! I'm so sorry!"

Dreamriver sobbed, pressing her nose into his chest. Cloudriver eased himself up so he was sitting.

"It's okay Dreamriver. What's wrong. I've never seen you act like this. I know Watercloud just died... but..."

Cloudriver looked away, and Dreamriver shook her head.

"I-i don't know! I've been so confused!"

Dreamriver shuddered.

"I'm sorry... I shouldn't put you through this..."

She stumbled back, her paws slipping into the water. Dreamriver yelped slightly, and jumped to the left. She looked away from Cloudriver's confused stare. She heard him lightly padding over to her, then, she heard him whisper in her ear.

"It's okay Dreamriver. Everything's fine... I-i'm here..."

Cloudriver hesitated on the last words, though Dreamriver's heart sped up, and she stiffened. What does he mean by that? Does he... does he- Her thoughts were interrupted by a LakeClan cat walking out of he bushes. Dreamriver bristled at the sight of the tortoiseshell tom. Hawkclaw. She heard the tom snort softly, and Cloudriver spun around. Hawkclaw smirked.

"How's some of our newest warriors? Having some quiet time?"

Hawkclaw sneered, and she felt Cloudriver bristling.

"You do realize we live in a clan? So we have to work for the clan, which you too are not currently doing."

Hawkclaw narrowed his eyes, and Cloudriver let out a husky growl.

"We can relax too you know! Like you seem to do all the time!"

Hawkclaw laughed, it sounded thick, and it sent a shudder down Dreamriver's spine. Her blood ran cold as Hawkclaw took a few steps forward. Cloudriver growled a warning to stay back, but Hawkclaw ignored it until he was standing eye to eye with Dreamriver. Dreamriver was slightly larger them him, and still growing, and he growled hoarsely in my ear. She heard Cloudriver growl again, but Hawkclaw ignored it. He whispered in her ear.

"A Threat shall surface..."

Then, before Dreamriver could pull away, he stepped on her paw, digging in deep. She yowled in pain as his claws dug into her soft paw. Then, the grip loosened, and Dreamriver stumbled slightly. Her paw was bleeding heavily, deep holes showed in her paw. She whimpered, and looked to see where Hawkclaw had went, and she saw Cloudriver had him pinned down, and was snarling in his face. Finally, Cloudriver let him up, and Hawkclaw padded away as if nothing had happened. Cloudriver ran back to her.

"Are you okay!?"

Dreamriver nodded, and started to limp towards camp, then she felt his pelt brushing against hers, and he whisper in her ear.

"Lean on me if you want... that wound looks like it hurts."

Dreamriver flashed a look at her paw, which was still seeping out with blood with every movement, then looked at Cloudriver. She sighed, and leaned against him, an they headed back to camp...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dreamriver winced as the poultice was placed, and wrapped around her paw. It stung terribly, and she quickly lapped up the poppy seeds when they were pushed to her by Leopardwing. Leopardwing had recently gotten her full name.

"Now, you'll have to rest for a moon or so. No extreme movements, that wound was pretty deep, and we need to watch for infection."

Dreamriver sighed and nodded, and lied down to rest. She listened to Leopardwing and Sparrowleaf talk. She heard Leopardwing's soft voice first.

"So I heard both MarshClan and SandClan have new leader's and deputies Sparrowleaf! The new leader of MarshClan is Reedstar, and his deputy is Rippleblaze! SandClan's new leader is Featherstar, and her deputy is Frostpelt! It sounds like their clan's are thriving! But ours is too!"

Leopardwing purred, and Dreamriver caught Sparrowleaf's smile. They were sorting herbs, and soon they started to talk about what herbs they needed to collect. Dreamriver sighed in boredom, and let herself fall to sleep.

Dreamriver woke up to a shining forest, and she faintly recognized it as StarClan. She gasped, and tears stung her eyes.

"Watercloud..."

She choked out her father's name, and stepped towards him, but he shook his head, and she stopped, disappointed. He sighed.

"I don't know if you remember this... you were a kit at the time, but it is drawing nearer...

When the Dawn Sun Rises, a Dream Comes, a Threat Surfaces, and All Hope is Lost."

Dreamriver gasped. She barely remember the prophecy, but she only remembered it because Jaykit had died when she told it. She flinched at the memory, and nodded.

"What does it mean Watercloud?"

Watercloud looked away.

"I can not say. That is for you to figure out. But the threat you believe is the threat, may not be the one."

Watercloud nodded, and Dreamriver sighed as he faded away...

Dreamriver woke up panting, and she curled into a tight ball, not wanting to deal with the 'prophecy', not now, not ever. She looked up to see Skyblade walk in, she pretended like she was asleep, and he sat down beside her, lost in thought. Dreamriver, once again, drifted off to sleep, but a dreamless sleep...

(I am SOOO sorry! It took me forever to get started on this chapter! And before I started, I did all the updates, though I need pics from Dawnblaze for Rosekit, Dawnkit, Sagekit and Ravenkit! Sorry again! I'll try to post Chapter 11 as soon as possible!)
